Realme GT 6 Review

Now available globally, the Realme GT 6 appears to be a very promising device. The phone stands out thanks to its sleek and sophisticated design, one of the quickest chips, a premium Dolby Vision OLED, excellent cameras, a long battery life, and quick charging!

With a redesigned two-tone back that combines glossy sections with a silver mirror finish, Realme’s GT series has returned to international markets.

Realme is promoting the GT 6’s 6.78-inch OLED screen, which boasts an LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 10-bit color depth, and support for Dolby Vision. Above all, though, up to 6,000 nits is the maximum peak brightness available.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, which powers the GT 6, has gained some traction among manufacturers due to its flagship-caliber performance at a price that isn’t too high. Realme claims quick LPDDR5X RAM, UFS4 storage, and top-tier vapor-chamber cooling.

The GT 6 has three cameras: an 8MP ultrawide, a 50MP telephoto for 2x optical and 4x lossless zoom, and a 50MP primary with a top-tier Sony LYT-808 sensor. For taking selfies, there is also a 32MP camera.

Lastly, the Realme GT 6 boasts an incredibly capacious 5,500 mAh battery that enables lightning-fast 120W SuperVOOC charging. In just ten minutes, 50% of the charge is promised by Realme!

Design and Build Quality

  • Similarity to Other Models: The Realme GT 6, GT 6T, GT Neo6, and Neo6 SE have a lot in common. They are therefore designed in a way that reflects the sleek and mod look that is usually observed in the company’s most recent products.

Materials:

  • Front: Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has been applied to the GT6 front to protect it from the scratches and breakage it would sustain. Victus series Redmi phones have the highest 1080×2440 pixel resolution. This is due to the embedded number of pixels compared to another list Back: The back part of the phone is made of plastic material of equal magnitude on both halves. It is created in such a way that it is comfortable to hold and has an appealing appearance at the same time Frame: The front of the device is bordered by a flat square plastic frame, the sides of which are curved that smoothly extend into the back cover of the device.
  • Back: The back is made of plastic with symmetrical curves, providing a comfortable grip and a stylish look.
  • Frame: A plastic frame surrounds the device, connecting the front and back seamlessly.

Protection: The Realme GT 6 is IP65 rated so that it can endure dust and water jets (with low pressure). It gives the phone the capability to withstand wear and tear common in everyday use.

Color Options:

  1. Fluid Silver: Offers a predominantly matte finish with a glossy overlay.
  2. Razor Green: Similar matte and glossy combination.

Mirror Part: Both color variants feature a mirror-like section around the cameras, potentially useful as a selfie viewfinder.

Dimensions and Weight

A handsome slate phone with a weight of 199 grams and a size of 162 x 75 x 8.6 mm is the one that comes standard as its weight corresponds to the big displays with a glass back such as the curved design of some competitors but the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition feels lighter than them.

Handling:

Frame: The plastic frame has flat sides with sharp chamfers, ensuring a firm grip.

Mirror Part: While aesthetically pleasing, the mirror section is prone to fingerprints and smudges.

Realme UI 5.0 and Android 14 on the Realme GT 6

Software Overview

The Realme GT 6 operates on Realme UI 5.0, built on Android 14, offering a modern and user-friendly interface with several new AI-driven features and improvements.

  • Update Promise: Realme promises 3 years of major software updates and 4 years of security patches for the GT 6, ensuring the device stays up-to-date and secure for an extended period.
  • UI Comparison: Realme UI 5.0 shares similarities with Oppo’s ColorOS and OnePlus’s OxygenOS, providing a familiar and consistent user experience across these brands.

New AI Features

Realme UI 5.0 introduces two significant AI features: AI Smart Loop and AI Screen Recognition.

  • AI Smart Loop:
    • Functionality: Allows users to capture and send selected elements from the screen to other apps.
    • Usage: Activated by a simple gesture, enabling efficient content sharing and multitasking.
    • Performance: Similar to Google Pixel’s content recognition but slightly slower and limited to specific apps.
  • AI Screen Recognition:
    • Capabilities: Analyzes screen content, reads English and Chinese, and extracts images.
    • Comparison: Works like Google’s Magic Eraser tool, enabling intelligent removal of objects from photos.

Benchmark Performance

The Realme GT 6 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, designed for high performance with efficient thermal management.

  • CPU Configuration:
    • 1+4+3 CPU Setup:
      • Main Core: Cortex-X4 at 3.0 GHz.
      • Performance Cores: 4 Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8 GHz.
      • Efficiency Cores: 3 Cortex-A520 cores at 2.0 GHz.
    • GPU: Adreno 735, slightly less powerful than the Adreno 740 found in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
  • Performance Comparison:
    • Competitors: Outperforms Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9200+.
    • Flagship Comparison: This falls short against the Exynos 2400 in the Samsung Galaxy S24, expected as the Exynos 2400 is a flagship chip.
  • Thermal Management:
    • Design: Features a 10,014mm² 3D tempered dual vapor chamber, a large copper foil sheet beneath the screen, and a 9-layer graphite sheet.
    • Sustained Performance: Effective thermal design ensures consistent performance under prolonged use.

50MP Camera Setup

The Realme GT 6, aiming to break the stereotype of “flagship killers” compromising on cameras, offers a robust trio of cameras for the international market. Here’s a brief overview:

  • Main Camera: 50MP Sony LYT-808 sensor with multi-directional PDAF and OIS, capable of 4K@60fps. It delivers excellent daylight photos with superb sharpness, detail, and dynamic range. Colors are vibrant yet natural, although sometimes highlights may clip due to higher exposure settings. The 50MP mode is not highly recommended.
  • 2x Zoom Camera: 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor with PDAF and OIS. Despite being just 2x, it provides clean, detailed images with a wide dynamic range and consistent performance indoors and in low light. The 4x zoom toggle produces slightly fuzzier but still decent images.
  • Ultrawide Camera: 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor with fixed focus. Although not on par with the main and zoom cameras, it delivers acceptable ultrawide shots with decent detail and overall processing that matches the other cameras. However, its low-light performance is less impressive, with sharpness and contrast needing improvement.
  • Front Camera: 32MP Sony IMX 615 sensor with fixed focus. Selfies are not remarkable, with issues in color accuracy, dynamic range, and sharpness.

Daylight Performance:

  • Main camera: Flagship-level performance with impressive sharpness, detail, and dynamic range.
  • 2x zoom camera: Excellent detail and clarity, comparable to the main camera.
  • Ultrawide camera: Acceptable quality but inferior to the main and zoom cameras.

Low-Light Performance:

  • Main camera: Solid quality with bright, detailed, and noise-free images, although Night mode can sometimes overly brighten shadows.
  • 2x zoom camera: Decent results with good dynamic range and color, but some oversharpening.
  • Ultrawide camera: Mediocre performance with inadequate sharpness and contrast, despite the Night mode’s efforts.

Selfies:

  • Disappointing overall, with anemic colors, poor dynamic range, and lackluster sharpness.

Overall, the Realme GT 6 offers a strong camera setup with notable strengths in its main and zoom cameras, but the ultrawide and selfie cameras could use improvement.

Video recording

The best thing about the Realme GT 6 is its mega video recording capacity accompanied by some weaknesses and strengths like these:

  • 4K Video Recording: They are all 4K, the main, and selfie cameras together with the zoom camera can all record 4K video at (not more than) 60fps. The ultrawide camera has a lower resolution of 1080p for this reason.
  • Main Camera: The main camera’s 4K clips are very detailed and crisp with great contrast and dynamic range. The colors are real but the bright scenes may show some highlights that are clipped.
  • 2x Zoom Camera: 2x Zoom also supports 4K recording and is doing a great job with nicely balanced matter and sharpness. It does best in daylight and low-light settings.
  • 4x Zoom and Ultrawide Cameras: Soft is very prominent in the footage from the 4x Zoom camera as it lacks clarity and detail. At the same time, the ultrawide camera’s 1080p resolution means that it has limited dynamic range and little detail.
  • Nighttime Recording: The primary camera is top-notch even in the low lighting excels, providing exactly that, a very sharp, non-noise or less noise, and well-detailed 4K video. But a slight contrast and exposure correction might be of some help.
  • Stabilization: Standard electronic image stabilization (EIS) is available in 4K mode, and, to imitate action camera footage, you can go for Ultra Steady mode at 1080p 60fps.
  • Additional Features: The GT 6 comes with HDR Dolby Vision video recording support for more vibrant colors and higher contrast on compatible displays.

All in all, the Realme GT 6 is mainly built around its capturing quality of the primary and 2x zoom cameras, the ultrawide and the 4x zoom cameras do although come in a little shy. Good enough IT (Information Technology) stabilization IS and LOW-light LIGHT are the reasons for its versatility as a recording device.

Competition

The Realme GT 6 has strong competition from the rival brands although the “affordable flagship” category is its own. The price of the phone is in the range of €550 for early birds and goes up to €600 when the normal price is set. However, it is nonetheless compared with various other brands, which have the following properties:

Even though it was unveiled last year, the Xiaomi 13T Pro remains current even in 2024 with advances in the operating system for a period of three years. It would have been a better ultrawide camera and probably more efficient video recording but it is the only thing where it disappoints- display brightness and battery life next to the GT 6. It is to be noted that both phones are available in the price range of €550.

Poco F6 Pro: The upgraded version they have come up with has a very powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC which is the reason why I say this Poco F6 Pro is quite a match for the GT 6 which the phone displays and charges at. This one has the same display and charges the device quite quickly as the GT6. Besides, on the other hand, it performs worse in the matter of the camera and battery life.

Samsung Galaxy S24: The one with the Plus model of S24 costs more but the S24 provides the same quality of performance, display, and camera. It has better telephoto, ultrawide, and selfie cameras whereas when it comes to battery life and charging speed the GT 6 outperforms the Samsung Galaxy S24 but still prices are similar to the entry-level versions in the case of both.

Honor 200 and 200 Pro: The Honor 200 is a bit cheaper as opposed to the 200 Pro which is a bit more expensive compared to the GT 6. The cheaper Honor 200 Pro provides the best camera and at the same time, wireless charging is super fast with the GT 6 which is a good sign for the phone. A 512GB storage model of the 200 Pro costs the same as a Kiphone GT 6, but the 200 Pro starts at 1,000 Euros; meanwhile, the GT 6 starts at 800 Euros.

Motorola Edge 50 Pro: The main camera setup including a triple telephoto lens and an upgraded 50MP selfie camera with autofocus is like a stack of cards that comes down with grace and strength and makes Edge 50 Pro of Motorola another alternative of choice. But, the problem boiled down to the underperforming of the battery as well as having a less powerful Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip that cannot be compared to the GT 6.

Verdict

A Realme GT 6 is a full-fledged handset that provides users with a top-class camera, improved zooming capacities, a quick chipset, and a flagship-level LTPO OLED screen which is even equipped with fast charging, long battery life, and good speakers. In spite of the pluses, it is in a tough rivalry, especially with relation to the ultrawide and selfie cameras. So those who are in the market for a Realme GT 6 at this price range you guys are in luck as the handset sporting flagship prices are the bargain. Plus, it might be well worth it to hang around for a while until the prices drop to the desired level.

Pros

  • Class-leading, bright 120Hz LTPO OLED panel.
  • Excellent battery life.
  • Very fast charging speed.
  • Snappy and modern chipset, good sustained performance.
  • On-board IR blaster.
  •

Cons

  • Unimpressive selfies and ultrawide cameras.
  • The telephoto camera has only 2x optical zoom.
